Looking for good books at bargain prices? Then you’ll want to visit the Jefferson County Library Foundation’s (JCLF) Fall Whale of a Used Book Sale at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, from Friday, October 19, through Sunday, October 21. This semi-annual event, which has more than a 20-year history in the community, offers the public 80,000 books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records and many more items with prices starting at $0.50. Plus, admission is free!


“This huge sale is always popular with book lovers from throughout Jefferson County – and beyond!” says Jo Schantz, executive director of the Jefferson County Library Foundation. And in addition, “All of our Whale of a Used Book Sales help us raise funds, which in turn helps to benefit Jefferson County Public Library.”

The sale launches on Thursday evening, October 18, with a Friends-only Preview Night from 6 to 8 p.

m., and where Friends of the Library are invited to shop the sale before it opens to the public. The following morning, October 19, Early Bird shoppers can get in ahead of the crowd from 8 – 9 a.m. for a fee of $10 per adult. At 9 a.m., the sale opens to the public, and there is no admission charge for the rest of the three-day sale. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20. On Sunday, October 21, the sale is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The Fall Whale Sale is always a great community event,” adds Donna Walker, executive director of Jefferson County Public Library. “We appreciate the Library Foundation’s tremendous efforts to sell quality used books in support of funding library programs and services.”
